A gunman shot by Mashantucket Pequot tribal police on Sept. 20 at Foxwoods Casino has been identified as Michael Goodale.

Goodale, 24, was a wanted suspect with an active arrest warrant for violating probation. Mashantucket Pequot tribal officers attempted to take Goodale into custody on the 4th level of the Fox Tower parking garage.

Goodale aimed a gun at the officers and did not comply when ordered to drop it. This resulted in the discharge of one officer’s weapon at Goodale, who then fell from the upper level of the parking garage.

Mashantucket Tribal Police administered first aid, but Goodale was pronounced dead. No patrons of the casino or police officers were injured.

Following the shooting, at noon on Sept. 20, the Mashantucket Tribal Police chief and the New London State’s Attorney Office requested the Eastern District Major Crime Squad respond to the scene for investigation.

The investigation is ongoing pending autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
